No word on civilian cars. Will they even offer them? Autoweek article

So how long before I can buy a used one?

Well, given that they offer a "civilian" package I'm hoping they will. What good is having an undercover cop car that is only available to cops? Not realy stealthy, is it?

I'll beleive it when it's in my rearveiw mirror.

Missed this on my first skim:"There are no plans at this time to sell a version of the Caprice to the public, Martin said." Interesting thoughts on the undercover version HeavyDuty. Could the undercover car be a G8 since there are a few on the roads already?

I think "under cover" means no lights but the exact same car otherwise. Similar to how an "undercover" Crown Vic is just another Crown Vic and not disguised up as a Mercury Marquis.

If they enter the Heavy Duty cop market they also may go to the Taxi market but the taxi market has seemed to gone to the Hybrids in NYC and Scion Gen2 Xb's everywhere else.

I really, really hope they do this. I'd so be in the market for a leftover G8/Caprice/Commodore cop car to replace the P71 eventually.

I know this has dubious relevance to today's and tomorrow's market, but back when I was purchasing fleet vehicles for a security company (early 1980s), the manufacturer responses were as follows:

Chrysler said there was no way I could order police-package anything without a badge, period, forget it, have a nice day.

GM said they'd be happy to include my order the next time they ran a batch of 9C1s, but they couldn't predict when that would be.

Ford basically said, "How many do ya want?" They were prepared to schedule police packages on the line at any time and in any quantity.

    We bought Fords.

I'd rather see Carbon Motors succeed, and the D3 stay out of this market for the sole reason that Carbon chose Connersville, Indiana for their plant. It's about 45 minutes from my hometown, and that's where my wife grew up (and her family lives).

But I think GM could build a better cop car, and if there's a civilian version available, I'd want it.

I think the Dodge Charger Police editions will be attainable much sooner for "us" than the GM version... they seem to be used more and more here in the NW.. those dark blue "undercover" ones are hard to spot! :)

If the Caprice would use the V6 from the Camaro, that might be fun too! I suppose a manual version would be out of the picture....

You can have a civvie version any time you want. You just have to move to the middle east to get one, or to China for a Buick Park Avenue.

Ok, I deserve a major "DUH" for missing the motherland of these cars. Long day.
