My daughter is looking for an older Toyota PU and I am not sure how to search. SR5 is a trim level and not a model.
Any help would be great. Thx

If you go back far enough, it is just Toyota pickup. They only made one style. I am ASSuming it is probably a minitruck, so it is a Tacoma, just like the new ones. It is just back then they were never named.
Tough. Simple. Clarkson-proof.

yup... toyota was simple like that... kinda like the "toyota van" lol... not much imagination in those names but hey it was obvious lol
They were know as Hilux pickups in almost every other market, and maybe even here, but nobody ever called them that.
I would get a 1994 1/2 to the 80s model if you can. I have a 1994 right now and it is the best vehicle in the fleet, 1100lbs payload, 27mpg freeway, 5 speed tranny, with 22re engine at 235k miles. You can find them here in Cali for between 1800-2500, you'll be fighting the gardeners and scrappers but they are great trucks. You can keep the american crap. Find an american half ton that does 27mpg and get back to me if I'm full of crap.
Back when they had no name here in the US, other than truck, they came in only a few easily understood configurations.
Cab & chassis. No bed. This was the basis of the camper, the cube trucks, etc. This is the configuration available as a dually.
1-ton. Long bed only (7 foot). Heavier brakes, optional heavier radiator. This is not the dually, though many incorrectly think it is, or was an option. The dually option was not available on pickup trucks, though some later would swap it in (easy bolt in change).
SR5. Cloth interior, tachometer, fancy paint stripe. Long or short bed. Standard or extended cab.
Base. Vinyl seats, usually bench. No tachometer. Long or short bed. Standard cab on (I think).
Bed size. Long was 7', standard was 6', short was 5'. There is some variance with this, depending on where the bed came from.
Engine R series 4 banger. It evolved over the years, growing in size and developed fuel injection eventually.
Transmission
Auto or manual.
Cab Conventional, extended. First the extended had something like 9" added, and later grew a few more inches, allowing for a tiny jump seat in the back that a mouse could perch on.
Thx for your responses.
Foxtrapper thanks for the overview.
Wasn't the SR5 always a 5 speed?
Mine is a 86 Truck, 4 speed.
In reply to Sultan:
So, in response to your actual question, I had some success using "Toyota pickup" or "toyota truck" in the search field. This will still miss a few trucks, occasionally "toyota pick up" (with the extra space) will turn up something. If you're in a small enough craigslist market, I would just put toyota into the search box and set a min and max price in the neighborhood you're looking for.
Forgot the 5 vs 4 speed manual transmissions.
The really old ones came 4 speed. Later upgraded to 5 speeds, but they kept the 4 speed choice around for a long time.
The 5 in SR5 is for 5-speed. But in Toyota fashion, not all SR5's came with 5 speed manuals. You could have the automatic tranny, and I think for a period of time you could even have a 4 speed.
