Crapcan technology upgrade

As we head into another Lemons race at CMP in September, we're woefully overdue for a technology refresh.  Our current 'technology' package is the original one that I started Lemons racing with in 2009:  A GoPro Hero2 HD.  

It reliably does the following:

1.  Battery dies randomly, even though hardwired to power
2. Team mates forget to turn it on, due to the magic button timing, which only I seem to posess
3. Begins every video with someone's mug looking into the lens (hey, is this thing on?)
4. Generally sucks like the economy did in 2009

So we're ready for an upgrade.  I'd love to have a tablet that shows lap time, split or segment time, and OBD2 coolant temp.  Add to that a camera that is reliable and is easy to overlay data on.  Bonus points for reliable and affordable.

Anyone willing to share their crapcan technology rigs?  I promise it will not be a competitive advantage (for us.)  

Easiest way to get lap times etc and OBD2 is to use something like Harry's lap timer. Depending on the phone you use for it, it can also record video (and create the overlays IIRC) and sync with a GoPro.
