never said it would, but it would be a step up from a Yugo lump, and lighter than a N* and a transaxle capable of handling that power

Weight in the right spot is no penalty in my book.

If I had my way the Beetle would be mid engine, rear wheel drive, and powered by a LS series FWD setup.

I'm sure all of you have seen this by now, but I just discovered it and it left me speechless:

    http://zcars.org.uk/

I think I have to have one of these!!!

Barring that, we've bought an 88 Tercel hatchback for our mid-engine hatchback project, and now we're figuring out what to do with it. I say we splice in an MR2 (second generation) rear subframe, use MR2 rear suspension and power it with a Camry V6 and a 5-speed.

However, you guys have gotten me thinking... I really like the Fiero subframe/suspension idea...and the LSx V8!!

The question then becomes.. What transversely-mounted manual transmission could survive the LSx?

I like the Yugo lump. I'm getting close to those 9000 rpm revs, and there aren't a lot of motors that can scream like that.

I'm just not sure about using it in the back of a RWD mid engined Yugo.

This is a question for a fiero forum.

That G5 or G6 6-speed, whichever it was.

I always wanted to convert an Acura RSX into a mid-engine rwd car. Thought that would be a fun car.

Inspired by mrdontplay's idea, we may have a new plan for our littel Tercel...

Instead of building a chassis or splicing in part of an MR2 chassis, we are thinking about just re-skinning a Fiero with the Tercel sheetmetal. Then, we'd mount the LSx V8 and G6 6-speed...

I know that many kit cars are built from Fieros, so the plastic body panels must come off. I mean, if a Fiero can be turned into a convincing Lamborghini or Ferrari replica, then why not an 80's Tercel?

My question is, before I buy a Fiero to cut up, has anyone ever seen a Fiero without the body on it?

I'd hate to cut up twp cars and end up with...two cut up cars.

Believe it or not, the body parts are held on with velcro (industrial strength version)

Along similar lines, I've had ridiculous thoughts of putting a 3L Duratec mated to a 5 speed manual in the rear of a 99-02 Cougar, but leaving the 2.5L in the front. Kind of a pseudo-V12 400hp AWD hatchback.

Unfortunately, the time, talent and money are things I do not possess.

Neat idea along the lines of the Durocco(for the few who haven't seen it, www.durocco.com). Deuxger, then?

Seems like it would be easier to just use another tercel front end to me. The lsx could be a problem though. Maybe use a camry V6 with a 5spd, or does the FWD celica GTS have a 5speed?
