Got 944 in Guards Red. Paint on the sides is OK and will polish out to a reasonable shine; top and hood are entirely berkeleyed up.

This is a track car so strictly speaking it doesn't have to look good. That said, I'd prefer that it not look like it came straight from the junkyard.

My current thinking is to simply do a homebrew paint job on the hood and roof only, in flat black. Or I could get it vinyl wrapped which would give me some graphics options. Though I read that for a decent vinyl wrap job the paint underneath has to be in reasonable shape.

Other thoughts? Anyone with Photoshop feel like knocking out a quick mock up? Here's a base image to use (not mine). http://image.automotive.com/f/features/10402076+soriginal/epcp_0810_03_z+1989_pors...

You could use a suede black like this
for the roof/hood/hatch. Then make a German-flag colored racing stripe. (edge it on both sides with a white pinstripe so the black of the flag is separated from the black field of the hood.) The effect would be similar to this upholstry for an italian bike.

    I like it.

You must be new here. There is nothing wrong with your car looking like it came right from the junkyard if it is on the sharp end of the finishing order.

I would suggest doing the top in white so it doesn't get as hot on track days.

Two tone using the tops of the fender flares as a dividing line. Wrap the color around the deck lid and nose. Buy some inexpensive pinstripe tape to separate the colors.

I second the white on top. I know someone that spraypaints his truck cab white for summer and black for winter. It makes a difference.

I would avoid flat paint over gloss. To me it just looks unfinished even if thats the look you're going for. Also white and red is too plain to me. Silver with a bright pin stripe between them on the other hand...

Silver and Red would look nice.

Someone on here races 944's and has a 2-tone 944 racer with the split on the flares like we're talking about. I think his is just a perimeter stripe though.

Split at the flare would probably look better. Anyone have any idea what it takes to shave off the rain gutters?
