Got a text from Chris Smith Racing a couple days ago, asked if i could lend a hand with a BMW E90 Continental Challenge ST car. Sure, why not!
a good friend and local Nasa racer Jason came and helped out on Saturday, put the heat shield in
Just needs a couple more bits installed/fab'ed up, then entering a 3 hour Enduro on Friday...
Let me know when the call to help out with the Hawaiian Tropic Bikini team comes in. Lucky bastard!
I had a set on my old saab NG900.. great rim, they were the best part of that car
That thing looks wicked in Whirlpool White!

two questions...
1) is this the first race for it? Looks like it's just getting finished.
and 2) is this the car that had it's own thread some time back? Where a group of people got together an decided on making one. Or was that a silver car- I can't seem to remember.
Good luck with it, I'm sure we'll see it in a few weeks on TV. hopefully, not as the cause of a yellow....
Answer both questions: YES
First race is gonna be a shake down for it.
This started life as a silver E90, two Spec E30 dudes bought it with intentions of building a ST car out of it. Got it shipped to CSR for Chris to finish.

Cool- I'll root for it, even though it's a BMW.
Although, by the time I see it, the race will be long over.
This is it, the original thread, i even commented in it haha

We did some tearoffs for the 65 roses car at the rolex
So, what ended up being the ECU plan?
(BTW, reading through the old posts, pigeon thought the tuning software was INPA or something close to that- it's actually INCA- which is Bosch tuning software- they let all of their customers use it. I never used it, but know people who have, soo... a very minor correction)
they ended up going with the bosch motorsports box - $7,500...
that box is worth more than all three of my cars combined
For anyone in the Atlanta region, NASA has a regional this weekend, come on by and check out the car! We are doing the Test and Tune on Friday, then Saturday, im just helping out with some customer cars...

That looks nice. My BMW in my garage is:
a. Older.
b. Rustier.
c. Slower.
d. Has the to-do list taped to the right rear window instead of the left rear window.
UPDATE
Well, after being at the shop until 1:30am doing corner weights and stringing up the car, i get back to the shop at 5am to load up the rig and get to the track. Found out last night that the crank position sensor and cam position sensor, which look the same, are two completely different sensors and was making it go into limp mode. Corrected it, fired up.
First session of the day: Completely chews the serpentine belt and destroys the tensioner. I ran to Advance at least 5 times to and from the track to get the correct tensioner (incorrectly packaged by the vendor) and right belt (half an inch off makes a world of difference). So, after 2 hours of tracking down the correct parts, go out for the 3rd session. 2 laps in, pop the hood, oil is EVERYWHERE... At first, we thought the shredded belt got wrapped around the harmonic balancer and wedged itself into the crank seal, but found out it was the crankcase ventilation pipe had come loose and was dripping oil onto the belly pan, which when Jim got on the brakes, would shlosh forward on the pan under the crank. Easy fix.
Now, to iron out all the Motec stuff and a couple more sessions, should be an awesome car!
In reply to DukeOfUndersteer:
I'll take the one in the middle please.
In reply to Giant Purple Snorklewacker:
yea, we are running that as well as a 944, both in GTS. Real nice guys
On the truck to Mid Ohio for the World Challenge race!!
if only I had a 10th of your prep space
In reply to DukeOfUndersteer:
On the Motec side- do you have someone dedicated to do that work? Not that I know anything about Motec, specifcially, but if the specialist is up to their eyeballs fixing other issues, I can take a look at the engine running data to provide some suggestions.
Assuming you are taking reams of data to be looked at.
Good luck with it!
In reply to alfadriver:
Yeup, we have a dedicated Motec guy. We spent 2 hours on the dyno two days go, fine tuning everything. It is definitely something i would like to learn. Currently learning the AIM systems.
Cool, and I hope you all continue to take data while the car is on the track. 2 hours isn't all that long to tune. Should get close enough for most situations, but there may be some where the dyno isn't quite right- say part throttle situations, and transients.
So as long as you can continue to take data to fine tune, you can make that thing sing.
