Yeah, there aren't any new Cobalt SS's within 100 miles of where I live. I've tried that several times over the past month or so.

We tried to dicker and deal on a new Fit, and it wasn't happening, no matter who we talked to. I have to believe there would be a bit more room on a MS3, though. I haven't seen many around on the streets, the local dealer has a couple.

You do realize dealer profit on a Fit is $450 on the base and $550 on the sport. There is no room to negotiate......

Is that based on MSRP or Invoice?

I find that hard to believe. Even with invoice price, dealers rarely pay close to that when buying the cars. Then they add on destination fees, which are totally bogus - it doesn't cost no $700 to get most cars to the dealer. The Fit from Japan? Maybe.
I'd bet Dealers make at least $1000 on each new Fit sold at MSRP. We got it a couple hundred below MSRP, but would have liked to get more, what with the 09 redesign on its way to the lot. Unfortunately most 08 cars sell within a week, even with the 09 coming out.

I didn't believe that either, so I checked Edmond's for pricing (for what it's worth). The '08 base Fit with a manual has an MSRP of 13,950 and invoice of 13,453, so that isn't much margin at all. The sport with an automatic has an MSRP of 16,070 and an invoice of 15,488, not much better. However, we all know that there is more profit in a car than that. I bought an Accord last fall for $2500 UNDER invoice, and you can bet the dealer still made a profit. But it was a closeout of an '07, and it was a highly optioned car, which always gives them more room to move. I think at the moment, you have to consider the demand for the Fit, which I understand is quite high. So they don't have much incentive to deal on them anyway.

Problem is, it is a "limited production" car and no one wants to budge on the price, and of course no incentives are ever offered. Even end-of-the-year deals seem unlikely. I am scared of used ones because they have such a high "seriously abused by a rich kid" factor and the ones I find only cut @ $2K from the price. I am also getting the story that the market is really bad right now, so I can only get 10% of KBB for my trade-in.
At $23,000, it is still a screamin' deal for what you get, but I hate paying full retail for anything. Perhaps when the new model comes out, I can get an unsold '08. Or hit the lottery.
Ask about "S" plan pricing. That should get you some relief. Try other dealers for the same- I don't think the MS series is not on the discount list.
If they can get you one, then figure a way to contact me. I'll get you a PIN.
Hopefully, my GRM friends from GM or other OEM's would do the same... but if you LOVE the car, it would be great to make sure you got it.

Is S plan pricing better than X plan? the gf is looking at mazdas and qualifies for the X plan pricing.
to OP: be patient. i had to drive as far as Dallas (from Houston) to find my car. i ended up finding a used 07 with 5800 miles on it, fully loaded with nav for about 2k less than the non-nav new cars i was looking at.
the car now has nearly 20k on it and i'm loving it. with an intake and a downpipe, they're making right around 275-280 at the wheels(about 50hp over stock).

Don't you think you're limiting yourself a bit much? Maybe my perspective is skewed, since I picked up my Saabaru about 1500 miles away from where I lived to get the exact options I wanted when I bought it, but if I'm dropping that much cash on a new car I don't mind a driving a few hours. If you're solely wanting a test drive before purchasing (and don't want to drive a couple of hours to do it) and hadn't driven one before, I bet you can find a forum full of Cobalt SS guys and explain your predicament, maybe you can make a new friend locally.

As it turns out, Mazda has one "special" set of pricing. A, X, Z for Ford all become S at Mazda. At least the last time I went to the Mazda dealer. It may have changed. Bascially, X and S are the same discount...
Either way, I'll be happy to get a PIN. (again, as I would hope other OEM members would, too).

If you want to save some money the mazdaspeed6 can be had for less than 20k on the used market. Same motor as the speed3, AWD, and some extra weight. Watch out for the weak motor mount (both speed3 and speed6) and for the speed6 also watch out for a weak rear differential mount. I broke bolts on it twice!!! (motor is stock)

I'll let you in on a little secret on the GM Search for a Vehicle Site:
Here's a sample URL from the search:
http://www.chevrolet.com/vehiclelocator/locateVehicle.do?proximity=100&proximi...
As you can see, there's a proximity parameter in the first part of the string, just bump it up from 100 to the distance you're willing to travel...

alfadriver: thanks, but like i said, she already qualifies for the X plan, which is probably the same thing like you said (dealer invoice). I think she's going to go with a Lexus is250 this weekend.
