I'm looking for a dash mounted mirror for my miata without a windshield (I'm hoping to put it back on the road). Does anyone know of cars that came with a dash mounted mirror? I would prefer something that was all metal instead of plastic, but plastic would work too. I'm trying to search on ebay, junk yards, etc, but don't know what cars to search for.

Nice view of your shoulder but I'm used to that from motorbikes. I do a head check before lane changes...

Most of the windshield mounted mirrors should work on the dash. You might have to make a little wedge-shaped mount to get the right angle, but if it's the typical style with two ball joints that might give you enough adjustment. The mirror from a 1996-05 Miata would probably work pretty well, although I wonder if you could make it stick up high enough?

Many older sports cars had dash mirrors.

A friend of mine moved his windshield mirror down lower on the glass to achieve the same look without the drilling and fabricating.

1958 Dodges had them mounted on the dash, but they're probably not very common in the salvage yards any more. (My mother had a '58 Dodge when I was a kid; at least in that car, the dash mounted mirror didn't work very well at all.)

My '62 Chrysler has one, complete with "Day" and "Nite" settings, Although '62 Chryslers are harder to find than '58 Dodges.

That would work, except mw is windshieldless.

Couldn't you also just take one of the roof-mounted mirrors and flip it upside down? What's special about a dash mounted mirror?

Fiat 124 had dashboard mounted mirror. But as others have pointed out, just pull the mount off the window frame and put it on the dash.

That said, you sure you need that mirror? Usually two door mirrors negate the requirement for the center mirror.

I think the reason for a dashboard specific one is that it would give the loft needed to make it actually usable. A converted windshield type wouldn't sit high enough. Did you look at Speedway motors catalog for their street rods, I'm sure they have something.
