From what I have heard.. their autos are the result of them building terrible manual transmissions.
I do recall seeing a gullwing replica that used the 190/300E as the donor.. it was not a cheap kit and when tested.. was faster and handled better than the original.
Of course the original was a rather evil handling machine at the best of times
