I just recievd a call that a new guy ran a 04 chevy express with a 6.0 that has an oil habit totaly out of gas then filled it with diesel. It drove 45 mi towing and is still running. Any thoughts?
What should be done besides pumping out fuel and replacing it with gas ,filter or just add gas and run it through.

Probably cooked the cat to death. My friend's idiot husband put diesel in her brand-new CR-V. By the time he got home from the station, the cat was glowing dull red.

When a friend borrowed my old '83 F350 Dually (Carbureted 460) and filled it up with diesel, here's what I did:
Siphoned what I could of the diesel out of that tank (ran it on the other tank to clear the line) and topped it all the way off with gas.
That tank didn't run the best, but I continued to dilute it with gas and eventually had it cleared out. No ill effects...but it was old and tolerant...

Heh, I heard that one of our drivers at work did that to our ragged-out Mitsu-Fuso. It was just a week after the company sprang for $1200 worth of repairs and maintenance on that thing.
other than being harder to burn and possibly clogging the cat and injectors.. I do not see any real ill effects to the engine itself.
Much better than gas in a diesel engine. My friend once filled the radiator of our 186 Hydro with diesel. Took about 2 gallons and explained why my loader tractor was overheating.
yes.. gas in a diesel is a good way to blow the headgaskets at best.. the whole heads at worst
I fired it up starts normal runs good exhaust has an odd smell.
On a different note then could a gas engine be made to burn veggi oil?
I wonder if you'll get better mileage? Hell, maybe we should all run our trucks on diesel. 
Both of my grandfathers have told stories of burning kerosene in cars during the 1930's. It was done to save money, apparently kerosene was much cheaper than gasoline. They said that the power was lower and it smelled horrible.
At its simplest form, any engine should be able to run any combustible fuel. Now it won't do it efficiently or well, but if you can somehow manage a way to inject a proper A/F mixture into a chamber and spark it, or in diesel's case, compress it enough to detonate, it will blow up, thereby moving the engine.
This is a gross simplification, but in theory, properly controlling fuel, air, and spark will allow you to run an engine on any combustible fuel.
this is true.. and is exactly what a diesel engine is.. an engine designed to run on a combustible fuel.
At least we are not down to running our cars on charcoal fumes like they did during the last world war in europe
