These new shopping cart picker upper machines are ruining our fun. When the guys get a long line of carts 20-30-40' long and try to manuever them around corners they end up flat spotting a lot of the tires and bending the brackets that hold the wheels on.

Sit kids in the shopping cart basket, not the seat near the handle. Have wheelie contests all the way down aisles by putting one foot on the tray on the bottom and leaning back. Push with whichever is left over. This can work on larger strollers.
This adds an element of speed (must accelerate constantly to maintain the wheelie) and skill (consider weight balance and child discipline to maintain weight distribution).

While running late at Dulles Airport a few weeks ago I scored a free Smarte Carte rental luggage cart someone had left on the 4th level of the parking garage.
Of course I had to try to ride it like a scooter down the ramp from the garage to the moving walkway. To do this I had to turn it around, and I've seen what happens to a rear-steer vehicle at high speeds...Still I had to try.
I ~just~ managed to foot-brake back to a reasonable speed before the completely inevitable and hilarious crash scene. Living proof that being over 50 means nothing with regard to maturity or thinking right.

I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one that drifts shopping carts and tries to hit a perfect late-apex line as I go through the store.
+1 for Ikea carts, they jrift like mad, yo.
Not a fan of the new target carts, though. I refer to them as "Fisher-Price My-first-shopping-cart"s. That, and they all have the wheel lock that engages when you cross the magic line in the parking lot. Not a fan when I park between Target and another store in the complex and try to take the cart back to the car only to have a wheel lock up when I'm 100' away.
My favorite are Costco carts. They still have the foot bar that lets you stand on the back, and they're big enough that when my 2XX lbs is standing on it, the cart doesn't wheelie. Makes for awesome trips across the parking lot

The real fun with shopping carts is this:
Get out in the parking lot, can't do it in a store (maybe)
Get on the wrong end of the cart.
Push, as normal, up to speed.
Get the rear wheels off the ground using your weight.
Get ready for some 180* freestyle action.
At least that's what we did as bag boys.

I found it's easier to drift a shopping cart with weight at the front. Makes the rear real light.
Also, the local target here is in a real ghetto dump area, and so nobody treats anything nicely (probobly why the whole place is a dump) so i've had a number of damaged new plastic target carts. The only fun one had massive toe out and positive camber on the rear wheels. Going straight was impossible, but who wants to do that?

I'm a manualing guy in the grocery store. Put your arms on the side of the basket instead of hands on handle, get weight forward with one foot on the bottom and one to push with, then tilt the front wheels up and coast.
For 180's I like the flat carts at the depot. Push (run) up to speed and jump both feet on the cart and hang on!!! I'm over 50 also! LOL

Many years ago I started a thread on a Nissan forum admitting I drift my shopping cart.
I was AMAZED how many people said they did too. And yes, I carefully place the heavier items in strategic locations to enhance the carts handling.
