I just take it to the local auto parts place or the city haz waste disposal.
Dumping into the ground or storm drains is short sighted. Wonder why there is so much cancer or odd stuff like autism? Dumping toxic material probably doesn't help.

That's a cheap shot. Inaccurate too.
Individuals will go just as far out of their way to save $.02. They generally pass it off, thinking it doesn't matter because it is such a small quantity. They forget, there are a lot of individuals.
My sister used to whine about truck emissions, until I pointed out that her 30 year old Accord smoked like tire fire. She said she couldn't afford an engine job, but I pointed out that as a percentage the emissions output of her car was probably worse than most trucks. If everyone thought like her, we'd be in terrible shape.
Businesses frequently have financial GAIN for proper disposal, or at least they can avoid penalties.
When something terrible happens, businesses get blamed, because everyone likes to have a bad guy. Even something huge, like the BP oil spill, doesn't have near the impact of individual consumption. They dump 100 million gallons of oil into the Gulf, we consume that much EVERY WEEK in our cars (a LOT of which ends up in the air, rivers, streams, etc.). But it sure is more fun to blame BP then ourselves.
Most businesses try hard to do things right. Just like people.
