Don't do it.

No advantage with modern pads. Lots of disadvantages.... Like broken rotors.

Removing mass from a heat sink seems counterintuitive.

On real beaters I've been known to take an awl or broken hacksaw blade and put some deep scratches across the scored rotor to break in the new pads faster. Beyond that, no.

I dont see the advantage in it on the street but the last time I priced rotors, the slotted were the same price on Rock Auto.

Good for extra braking noise.

I crossdrilled a set back in the day. It didn't go well. They ate the pads like cheese graters. Some minor cracks developed, and I pitched them. Looking back I'm lucky a dramatic failure didn't occur.

I like slotted rotors.. but would never attempt to do it myself. Too many things can go wrong

Having a machine shop do the work exempts this from DIY status. It's the only step..

If a DIY-slotted rotor were similar to factory-slotted one, they would be more consistent performance and better wet performance, all due to the vanes scraping off any glazing or water, at the cost of higher pad wear. But...guess it's not a good idea to DIY.
