Been looking a the Suzuki sx4, not exactly the fastest thing out there but it strikes me as something that might be fun (if not competitive) in both auto-x and rally-x. could certainly fit an extra set of tires in the back too. anybody have thoughts on these cars? or other candidates for a new do anything car?

Already had an Impreza wagon, and yes that could do anything too.

You had the wrong Subaru. I think a Forester with a proper (WRX) suspension will do everything the Suzuki can and more without the non-existent aftermarket support and spotty dealer network. The Impreza wagon's main failing is the sloped hatch glass which steals too much cargo space. The Foz solves that.

I was really interested in the SX4 too. They seem to get far better mileage than the Subies too. Then I went & actually drove one, and I'm sad to say it left me completely unimpressed. The seating, the feel of the interior, the driving experience all felt cheap. It was no where near the quality of the Fit, and honestly I'd even say the Hyundai Accent impressed me more on the first drive.

Such a shame too, because I really wanted to like the SX4...

I haven't driver an sx4, but I very nearly bought an aerio, and I thought that it was a darn good car for the money. The one that I test drove was a fwd auto and it was more than ok for a daily driver. the only reason I didn't buy it was because I didn't want car payments.

So maybee you could find a low mile aerio and try it out.

Don't limit yourself to AWD. Just about anything can be competitive in rally-x. At one of our recent events the top 5 finishers were driving: wrx, vw super beatle, wrx sti, vw golf, ford escort gt.

2wd cars do fine at rally. Do not tell Doug Shepard ( in the mopar SRT 4) (is he still running it, I've been out of the loop too long) That he needs AWD for rally..

He'll beat you handily in an "inferior" car. I've seen it before with my own eyes.

My First, Do Everything car? 1961 Chevy Impala SS.

283 , three speed! With Lake pipes!

Rally Cross. ( aka woods racin')

Auto cross ( aka rippin up parkin lots ) Drag racing ( out running the man )

AND fun car when you switched off the ignition at 70 mph, pumped the exhaust full of fuel and switched 'er back on to flame throw the pipes!

Not the best at any One thing, but sure fun at all!

Do everything car is like a guy with only one gun! He'll make do with the best he has. Watch out for him!

There was a lot of talk about a turbo SX4 but it seems like that is happening which sucks. The other day I was on a website looking at big brake kits and I saw a big brake kit for the Aerio which is just friggin weird.

Just came across this for the SX4. Seems RRE thinks they have potential.

    Ford Crown Victoria.

I was quite competitive in my rallycross class this year. The aftermarket is HUGE, most parts are direct swaps from Mustangs. Optional 4 wheel discs, big OHC V8, room in the trunk for 5 tires, fits 15's so tires are cheap, handles much better than any 2 ton car should.
