Play nicely within any other transmissions, or if their transmissions play nicely with any other applications (outside of hhr)?

No but i would have loved to have found one for my SS, but it now at 211,000 and still getting 31.5mpg I'm not messing with it.

It is I think the f40 trans, which should fit just about any other ecotec right?

Or do you mean taking the diff out and putting it in a different trans?

Its F35 trans I thought.  Are you asking if the trans plays nicely with other applications, or if you can swap the diff out to other transmissions?

What's the goal?

Yes, the Cobalt SS's all got the F35, 5 speed transmission.  More than a few higher HP guys have upgraded to the F40 (six speed) transmission, which requires an aftermarket LSD, IIRC.
