Why not keep it in the family and use a Spitfire rear?

Too bad the gears are made of glass. A GT6 is same way. (BTW, I'm a Spitfire/GT6 addict, just telling it like it is). You could chop an entire GT6+ subframe off, with transverse spring, rotoflex, lower A arms, and all. But you'd still have that fragile diff in the middle.

DeDion sounds nice, but the classic Tube takes up a lot of space, and you will still have to engineer a 3-link/4-link/Panhard/Watt's to control it. For packaging, could build a space frame with the diff inside instead of a tube, but that's a whole project in itself.

For the time, money, and application, find a live rear from an early RWD Corolla or Datsun. If it must be British, go for a TR-4 or MGB.

I have a good MGB GT rear axle taking up space in my garage. Just in case anyone wants to help get it out of the way Challenge priced, but you're going to have to pay shipping...

I think building a deDion rear would be a fun project. No different than a live axle as Carter points out, but with less unsprung weight and a certain cool factor.

Having chopped and whacked on LBC's for a while, I vote Miata rear also. Plentiful, lots of easy upgrades, easily narrowed. I cut one down for my stillborn rotary Opel GT project, it was chimp simple.

Jeez, this thing really is narrower than anything else out there. Not even the 2002 is anywhere close. I really didn't want to have a rear with a 5-10" wider track width. I guess I'll stick with a solid axle and chop it down the old fashioned way.

My goal was to find something with a complete subframe that all attaches to (e.g. Miata) to shoehorn up under the back. I know I'm going to have to play with the front a little just to get bigger brakes on it, but didn't really want to TOTALLY wipe it out!

    Good discussion none the less.
