Only 31,000 miles? Wow! It should last for another 400,000. Don't forget that those 16" wheels from the e39 5 series will require hubcentric rings to fit correctly on an e28.

Is Fla a community property state? That should stop him(Tim) in his tracks and strike fear into his heart. At least until you're ready to 'improve ' the E-28.

As I get older I realize the Best cars are not necessarily the fastest cars.

Best being defined as cars I like a lot no matter anything else.

    Don't drop in a V8; BMW inline 6s rock!

But we do want pictures. And we interested in these cars.

Sorry--got sidetracked yesterday afternoon. (Did you know you have to go to the P.D. to pick up a police report?)

Here's some Tom took for me (thanks, Tom):

Odometer reads 31,225 original miles after I've driven it for a week or so, and that's the original paint. Final purchase price was $2500, but Tim replaced the bumpers with some that we got from Rennie (and that a local shop buffed--came out great for MUCH less than replacement bumpers) and The Body Werks did $700 in spot paint repairs to some road rash on the right rear fender and a little rust starting on the sunroof panel.

    SUPER ETA!!!

    m20b25 top end swap, stat!

the difference is night and day. I dyno'ed mine before and after. There was no loss of power anywhere, and better than 40 more whp at peak.

How come nothing like that ever pops up here? I would buy that today. Hell, i COULD buy that today.

"A little rust starting on the sunroof panel." Good grief. When you live in a road-salt province, seeing that car sparkling in the sunshine is heartbreaking, but in a good way. Happy motoring, Suddards!

A crack-free dash in Florida has to be a rarity. Very nice looking car!

Just so you know, www.mye28.com is the de facto place to go for advice, finding spare parts, etc.

And don't mock the automatic, folks. In my quest to steal the old man PO's life and motoring attitudes, it completes me. Now I just need a porkpie hat and some vap-o-rub.

Off to the CCA website to see if there are any nice E28's for sale.

And one more hand raised for a v8 or v12 swap.

There's more than one e28 with a 540 V8 installed, and some with LSx GM motors. I know one guy who has plans to drop in a V12 but he hasn't gotten very far with it yet. The biggest bang for the buck on these cars is to turbocharge them - both the M20 baby six in the 528e and the M30 big six in the 535i can take a lot of boost. One of the guys on the mye28 board has done the e to i conversion on his 528 and then turbocharged it, the car now makes about 380hp at the rear wheels.

Having said all that I think Margie's car should stay stock - as a daily driver it just makes more sense.

Yes, it's simply wonderful as-is. Comfy, slow, and relaxed. Exactly what Margie needs.

A few years ago, I told her to get a Camry, but I was wrong.

Wow. As an ex-BMW guy, I've always hated the eta motors (and I was still a BMW when the things came out)...but for one that clean, I'd reconsider. Especially since it's an automatic, and won't really rev anyway...

E28's a great chassis. I was actually about to by a used one when my daughter came along, but her mom freaked when my 2002 project died with the baby in the back seat. She insisted I buy a new car instead. Turned out OK, I guess..that's how I bought my Golf.

EDIT: that should be "..still a BMW guy.." I've been a lot of things, but I've never been a BMW.

needs the UK grill and headlight kit to add the 7inch round mainbeams and the 5 1/2 inch highs.. not to mention euro bumpers (unless you need the protection from older drivers with those battering rams)
