You've now seen the pictures... Seller says engine has a knock.

what would GRM say the car is worth?

Imagine how much it was worth in 1970! IT'S FROM THE FUTURE!

Registered and not sitting for too long maybe $500? Unregistered/sitting for years, maybe $300? You can get crappy registered driveable ones for $1200.

At $500 you can't lose money on the deal (part it out in a worst case scenario) if the price is higher than that it's time to start looking at wear items, unibody rust and whatnot to decide if it's truly worth the effort.

if the rust is not bad.. I would shell out $500 for it. I keep having this urge to put M3 fenders on an E30 with euro chrome bumpers. Just something to upset the purists

What do M3 fenders for the E30 cost and are they available in non-rusting plastic? Seems like a grassroots wait to remove rust + add lightness.

    Yes they are.

No they aren't cheap, at least for quality ones.

$500 is way too much. $495 is far more reasonable...

It's a 325 with the snoozer eta engine. $500 max.

you can put the top end of a 325is engine and end up with a nice 2.7L

    it's not an '88 so I wouldn't try that.

rust is everything. if it's rusty I wouldn't be interested at all. if it's more or less sound, 500-1000 depending. are you sure it's a knock and not an untrained ear listening to typical m20 top end sounds? eta bottom ends are almost free, just some labor.
