Its been happening for about a year now, the glove box won't always open. However, it could always be opened if I locked it, and opened it back up. Sometimes it would take a little bit of force, but it would always open. Today, I was trying to open it, and the latch just came off, the entire thing. Any ideas on how to get into it? I don't "need" to get into it, but I do need to get into it, its holding the insurance information, and my sunglasses.

Lol...I sold an E30 a couple of years ago that I never did get into the glovebox. I have no idea what was in there. Coulda been a million dollars for all I know.

Really? Nothing? I gotta figure that the GRM group would know some special trick to get into it.

    In reply to mtn:

Look at the latch and you'll see a piece that is curved downwards from the right hand side to the left. Push the bottom end of it to the right .

Is the metal part still there? If it is put your knees on the lid and push up/forward into the dash (like your trying to close it) if its all gone reach toward the firewall and rip it out. This is about the only ways i have been able to get in to them. about 10-13 all together.

Search on R3V, common issue and a common fix.

There's two little pieces of plastic inside the latch that break in half. I took mine apart, used a tiny drill bit and some tiny screws from the inside of a VCR to put the pieces back together. I was afraid using glue would gum up the whole works. Anyway, mine wouldn't close half the time, but usually opened. Good luck!

Okay, so a little more detail here. Here are the pictures I took. Sorry for the poor lighting and quality, I only have a cell phone camera. I have tried pushing that "J" hook, nothing happened.

This one is the broken latch, the backside

And this one is the latch ON the glovebox.

I'm thinkin that. Going to get a drill, drill through the plastic, and figure it out from there. Its clear I need a new latch anyways...

Haven't tried yet. I'm in college, the garage is 3 blocks away, and I'm in class until 6 tonight. I might have a chance at about 3PM.
