This is from the local BMWCCA Forum. I want one. (This is where a "drool" emoticon would fit perfectly).

its a very cool project... But why the hell did they use an M3 when they didn't keep any of it. You could get a regular E30 for so much cheaper and not kill off a car that is getting pretty rare. Not to imply that they "ruined it", but its not an M3 any more... and a regular 325 would have worked just as well.
I also kinda wonder what that lump did to weight distribution...

What an extraordinary buildup. Talk about cubic dollars! Just amazing to see such a complex build documented so well. I'd love to see that made into an episode of Rides or something like that.

I'm no purist, so I don't care if they used a real M3 - although there are a number of detail changes in the body that might be desirable. I dunno.
I love the way they built it. A big burly build table, and everything gets built up from that. Beautiful, and other than the cost of the (reusable) steel in that table, it's a matter of technique and not budget. It's making me feel bad for not using that technique with the MG, it's much better than the way I'm doing it.

It's so much more than just an E30 M3 + a V10. It's got E9x suspension too! as for why? eh, why not? the S14 is a rather light engine at 235lbs. However, the S85 is a rather svelte 350lbs (only 2lbs heavier than the S62 in the E39 M5!)

Holy crap. The only way he could have made that any better is with a Corvette transaxle in the rear. (Sheesh, those internet pundits always have to criticize something eh?) But what an incredible job. The final front 3/4 pic just defines badass.

Did anyone else enjoy the cars in the background of the shots? Let's see, an XJS, a reference M5, a couple of 911s, old Mustang, old Vette, Miatas (including one that's obviously being built up), EVO, BMW, BMW, BMW, a red Midget (?), FB RX-7, Supra, WRX getting a full cage... they don't work on boring cars.

I'm in love. BMW should follow their lead.

Good suggestion! I went back through the pictures to do just that.
I'm curious about the car in this picture. It has a V10 badge on the side, but that is not an M5. It is an e90 3-series. Someone (perhaps the same shop) must have stuffed a V10 in that car as well!
EDIT: I wonder if it is a Hartge e90. Looks similar based on this picture.

So incredible.
Makes my OBD-I S52 with a smallish BBK up front and rebuilt suspension on my E30 seem like a chump build.
