Recently came into ownership of a 1997 Eagle Talon. 2.0 liter engine, no turbo, 5 spd tranny. Shop manual calls for Mopar MS9417 tranny fluid. Research show this to be basically automatic transmission fluid. The nasty stuff I drained out looked more like 30 or 40 weight engine oil. I filled the tranny with Royal Purple Synchromax. How do I know I'm putting the correct fluid in? For all I know, someone replaced the tranny during the car's life.

Quick Google-foo research says you should be OK. The synchromesh lube is close enough to the original.

they like that stuff, or GM syncromesh. Used to use it to make the grindy noises go away. Silly DSM trannies.

Amsoil has a really nice synchromesh fluid.
