I see a number of VW Touaregs locally with the TDI engine for seemingly low prices for the mileage. I think the later generation six TDI was not a full buyback, but a return and retune... Are these ones owners have dumped after taking the money or in anticipation of a buyback?

Outside of the optics/politics of driving a VW diesel - If fixed by VW, are these a torquey bargain or still a nightmare engine wrapped in a crappy, expensive suit?

It was a software flash on them.  We have a Cayenne diesel, basically the same car as the Touareg.  It's a nice ride, very torquey, gets crazy mpg for a 5300lb SUV, like close to 35mpg on the freeway.  So far we've only had one issue with ours, that the dealer handled.

Because of the scandal Porsche and VW put a 6 year/100k bumper/bumper warranty plus a 10yr/120k mile powertrain warranty on them.
