    yeah. I am thinking that way, but my experience with chains so far has been that they last ALOT longer than 81k or 11 years.
    If I don't get an "oh yeah, that's normal" type response soon, I will drop the coin on a new chain ($120ish)

    My experience with TENSIONERS, as well as chains, is that they last longer than 81K miles. But for some reason this one didn't. I hear ya...I wouldn't want to have to spend $120 for a chain. But, you already have it opened and you will be kicking yourself if it lets go and you had the opportunity to change it.

    Can you build a pre oiler to add pressure to the system before starting?

    My name is Moparman. My current collection is up to 6 Mopars. I eat, drink and sleep Mopars. Still, I can't help thinking that the lake and math ideas may be best. They may be best for some of my Mopars too.

    I think it was meant as a pre-initial startup.

    I've only got 4 (including the intrepid) I've just never ran up against a bad chain/tensioner in the 10+ DOHC V-motors I've had.

    I am getting close to just insuring it and watching it disappear

    Unhook the coils, pull the plugs and crank for 15 seconds. Install plugs and start car. It if is rattle free RUN do not walk to the nearest idiot with cash in hand.

    that is all already off, I think we will reinstall the intake and valve covers today (timing cover loosely) and see what happens.
    I may just sell it rattling for a "G" and be done with it. Go on to the next project.

    AARRGGHHH!!! should have just driven it to carmax. now reassembled it won't start unless I disonnect the cam sensor and I STILL have noise from the head that I started with.
