Why shouldn't I buy a set of 17x7.5 RFP1's for my FR-S? They seem like the best blend of weight and toughness per dollar. I know that I could just get a cheap set of Konigs or something for about half as much, but I keep getting drawn back to these. They're actually cheaper than the Kosei K1/K4's from Tire Rack.

Am I being a brand whore?

Because you should get wider ones.

If they're not 8.5's then go home

The car doesn't have enough power to justify the bigger tires. I could see how it might help in autocross, but it would probably make the car slower in every other situation.

If you think it's going to be slower with bigger tires, then go with the 7.5s. I like RPF1s.

I think you should go with at least 8" wide rims and 225 wide tires on a car of that weight and power, even if you're not doing autocross.

Rpf1 looks good on everything. I just wish they made more size/backspace options.

As always, first pick the tires, then the wheels. What width tires are you going to run?

RFP1s are tried and true, they would not have lasted nearly as long if they were not.

As others said first worry about the rubber and then worry about the width, personally I would go 8".

To me, the RPF1 is a generation outdated. There are a bunch of flow formed wheels coming on the market that are stronger, less expensive and don't have the bulky spokes of the Enkei. Those bulky spokes make for difficult fitment over brakes, at least in the Miata world. Not a bad wheel, just not one I personally would go for as I think there are better options for less these days.

Of course, I'm not sure how many of these are available in the FRS fitment.

I'll probably go with 225. What are the better options for less?

5x100 is a little harder to find stuff for than 5x114.3, but it is certainly easier to find stuff for than 4x110.

What Keith says aside, from a strictly visual standpoint, RPF1s look great on the Frizbee. In fact, RPF1s are the Kosei K1s of the twentyteens - they make everything they're put on look better.

Off the top of my head, Advanti Storm S1 and Traklite Holeshot. I think the Konig Flatout might be flow formed as well. Those are Miata options, I don't know their availability in 5x100. Looks like the Holeshot is an option at least. $179 MSRP, +38, 16.9 lbs.

Is it really asking so much to have a 15x10 114.3 wheel from these guys? man.

^ For serious. Small diam wheels/tires are getting way too tough to find and they make SO much sense if you're not driving a land barge.

I love team dynamics wheels, I don't care how "dated" they are

Check on Ebay.

That same line of wheels is marketed under many different names, and for whatever reason, some of the names have sizes that others don't.

Try STR to start. I'll try to remember the other names later.

Agreed on this; 17x9" will (just barely) fit with factory springs/struts if you run a 245 section width (our STX car runs this on stock size springs and stock dampers)
