A lot of the BMW guys shun the 4 cylinders.. I think they have some great untapped potential once you get past the bottlenecks the factory put into them to keep those engines from outshining the 6 cylinder cars

+1 on this, I assume you meant drop the M42 into a 2002? Didn't GRM suggest this in about December of 05-ish with their 318is? It can be supercharged

I think mad_machine wanted to drop it into an early four banger E30. It'll probably work well in an E21, too...

I know this 3.0CSI that looks great from fifty feet, but is absolutely riddled with rust. It would be a nightmare to properly restore. OTOH the guy wants 1k for it and would probably let it go for half that. I'd like to do a quick-and dirty bodywork job on it, remove the old 6 + auto and put in a Chevy 350 plus roots blower sticking out the hood. No, I don't have a secret desire to piss off BMW owners
edit: Problem is, with all that rust, the electronics are probably shot too

I was thumbing through the Volvo club magazine in the waiting room of a local independant shop, maybe a year ago. There was an article about someone who had massaged a P-1800 body onto a Corvette chassis.
I've never seen any mention of this car anywhere else.

Yes - that factored into why it was such an impressive project. As I recall, the Volvo body was cut into sections and filler panels were grafted to enlarge it to fit the chassis. It was, no doubt, more complicated than that - the proportions were spot on.

Joey, IIRC that Volga is a one-off. One picture shows the stock version. The one-off was built using a 7-series BMW, I think.

The Volga was built with 850 running gear, IIRC. It was built in Russia.
C&D did an article about it a couple of years ago.The impression that I got from the article was that the builders were a little off kilter.Sort like the Russians in the movie "xXx" with Vin Diesel.

I doubt you'd find anybody outside Russia daft enough to build something like this...
