I'm afraid this topic may have been addressed recently, if so, I apologize. But today, while they were working on my car, I took a walk down the street and passed a shop advertising Eco Power oil....no brand name, just a picture of a green quart bottle of oil. The claim was that it was 75-85% recycled or synthetic, I forget which, and they made it sound almost good enough to pour on your front lawn with no ill effects...except maybe a slippery time mowing your lawn. Heck, you might even be able to use it on a salad at dinner.

Heard of it? Used it?

Never used it. On a related tangent, I'm seeing more and more of these green oils hitting the market. There's a brand Wally World sells that is made from beef tallow, and Valvoline has the 50% new/50% recycled oil. I'm actually going to try the latter in my N/A RX-7.

Now that makes sense. Most of safety-Kleens business is "safely disposing" of used oil. They charge you a not so small fee to come and pick it up, re-refine it and sell it right back to you. Genius!

Umm... it's still a 100% petroleum based product. There is not a single word in their info that suggests it is environmentally neutral at the point of use, aka: lawns or salads.

I realize you were exagerating, but you did notice they are referring to the environmental processing impact, not the impact at point of use, right?

Good company and product... I'm just clarifying. They collect 200 million gallons of waste oil and produce 100 million gallons of re-refined oil. So, they have 100 million gallons of hazardous waste by-product in their petroleum product manufacturing process.

Just checking...

Yeah, I was exaggerating a bit, but the sign I was reading while I tried to look inconspicuous as I walked along, did mention something about synthetic...but I thought it was odd that no brand name was displayed, and even the windows of the shop didn't feature any ads for this oil. It was a "wrap" that looked like it was pulled around a stack of tires...or a large plastic barrel.

I suppose one of these days I should learn to take a moment and google this sort of stuff. But I really did want to know if anybody had used it/had any experience with it.

Wal Mart sold recycled oil about 20 years ago under whatever their house brand was at the time.. not Super Tech, i think it had "Sam" in the name..

anyways, that stuff looked and smelled like regualar oil after 5000 miles, but it was perfect for POS old cars that burned/leaked oil.. at 75 cents a quart you didn't really complain when you used 3 quarts of oil with every tank of gas...
