So all of the bench racers were deciding which '11 Mustang to get for F-Stock to replace the Shelby as the Sheeple choice (it was a base GT with the Track Pack, Brembos, and either the 3.55's or 3.73's last I heard) but now they all have to be laying bricks with the Boss 302.

For those that don't know, the Boss is being released with a better suspension, a functional front and rear spoiler, wider wheels, and 440HP. That is more than enough to spoil-sport everybody, but they are also releasing the Mack-Daddy Boss 302 Laguna Seca. The LS has all the Boss equipment plus a massive functional front splitter, even larger wheels, ADJUSTABLE shocks, and even a rear-seat delete option! This all on top of weighing less due to less insulation/options.

So what say the peanut gallery here? Is F-Stock going to be nothing but Laguna Seca's, or will the Sheeple banish it to SS and only let the "regular" Boss 302 dominate?

The only thing I know for sure is that there's about to me a massive glut of Shelby GT's on the used market with strange orange scuffs...

There's a fairly knowledgable discussion about this over on SCCAforums, with input by current F-Stock champ Sam Strano (who recently purchased a '11 5.0).

Oddly enough Strano spec'd his '11 with 3.31's when he ordered it.

It seems there's a good chance the Boss will be legal for FS, but it's likely the production numbers for the Laguna Seca version will be too low and it'll get dumped into Steet Prepared (similar to the Cobra R in the past).

I sure hope the Boss (as cool as it is) doesn't get classed in FS. From the looks of things, the 2011 mustang is competitive with the Shelby GT's, but not an overdog, which is a good thing. Without a doubt, the boss would become the model to have, rendering a bunch of very fast, fun and more affordable cars obsolete on the national level. There's no way the L-S version will be in FS. That wouldn't make a lick of sense.

The 3.55's and 3.73's are too short for faster national style courses, and I don't see the extra grunt helping all that much with such a large engine already. Adding a few mph at the end of a straight could help significantly.

It will be interesting to see how the 2011 does in Sam's hands at Nats. It would be even more interesting if there was some brand diversity...

Makes sense to me when you have over 400ftpnds on tap. Shifting sucks

Extra grunt? The Boss is 10 ft-lbs down on a GT - all the extra oomph is on the top end.

Who cares, 2 years from now it will get displaced and if not it's no worse than Miata/MX5s in ES, CSP, etc...

No kidding. At the last event, I was chatting with an F-Stock racer who has been running a Gen4 Camaro since he bought it new, although less since the Shelby came out. He said his next FS car will be leased. Swap shocks, add sway bar & trailer hitch, get a couple of sets of A6's and be done. When lease is up, replace OE parts,turn it in and repeat with next "car to have." Considering the car would be purchased mainly for auto-x, it'll never hit the miles and with some clear-bra to protect from cone scuffs, should be in great condition.

I'm referring to the GT, not the Boss. I could see the Boss benefiting from the 3.55 gears since it has a higher redline and peak power is at a higher rpm.

My point with the extra grunt not helping is if you can spin the wheels coming out of the corners in 2nd gear, a higher numberical gear isn't going to help any. I suspect even with hoosier A6's, you still have to be gentle on the throttle coming out of corners with the new 5.0.
