Basicly I'm looking for an online source for a helmet and possibly other driving clothes. Low buck Stig-look-alike?
Anyway... All i can think of is Summit and Jegs, but i remember i my B-I-L had some small catalog sitting around with just saftey gear with good prices. What are some good sites to find these things?

What kind of cert does a hemet need for basic Auto X.
Also I am about to join the SCCA. I will be 24 for 1 more month, can I pull the first gear deal still?

From the official rulebook:
"4.3 DRIVER’S SAFETY EQUIPMENT 4.3.1 Helmets
Helmets meeting the following standards must be worn while on course: All helmets meeting the current or two immediately preceding Snell Foundation standards (SA, K, or M), or SFI standards 31.1A, 31.2A, 41.1A, or 41.2A are acceptable. Helmets meeting British spec BS6658-85 type A/FR are also acceptable.
For maximum protection, helmets must fit securely and should provide adequate peripheral vision. The chin strap must be securely fastened. Loaner helmets should be available to vehicle occupants not having their own."A couple more websites to help you:

http://www.hmsmotorsport.comIf possible, try finding a local racing shop to try helmets on. I think some motorcycle shops carry SA-rated helmets. Most auto-x events have loaners available, but if you plan on doing a lot of racing this year or branching out to other areas besides auto-x (like me), plan on buying your own.

Saferacer almost always has a 10% coupon going on, hunt around for it. I think there's a standing Spec Miata discount if you find the code.

Join the SCCA and pick up a Solo II rule book. Get your specs from there.

HAHA! I love it. A guy says he is joining the SCCA and asks a question and people either quote the rule book or tell him to go get one instead of answering directly. Might as well get him used to it early, eh?

What is that supposed to mean?
No need to buy a rulebook until you need to produce one for competition purposes at a national event.

ArtOfRuin's post answered the question quite nicely, what's wrong with that? You need an SA, K or M 1995 helmet or newer - or one with the SFI or British spec.
