    Land Speed Racing?! Awesome! Hope they can finalize the deal.

    FYI - the airpark has two main runways, one 9,000 feet and the other 10,700 feet long.

    Didn't know they were looking for a new place to race. The "Maxton Mile" always sounded like fun.

    Yep, the deal with Maxton seems to have expired. Glad to hear they've found a spot.

    Where does one find the class listings and records for this sort of competition?

    [edit]

    Ok records: http://www.ecta-lsr.com/RecordsCars2.php

    Basic class listing: http://www.ecta-lsr.com/?page_id=56

    Still not finding difference between "Super Street" and "Real Street." I'm guessing that "fuel" means "race gas," and "gas" means "pump gas."

    Blown = supercharger/turbo
    Unblown = n/a

    Can't seem to find allowed modifications or class requirements besides engine type, though. Also not sure if "Real Street" allows forced induction. (I would guess not, due to relatively low speeds)

    Ok, i got it.

    Escort is a "Super Street F unblown" car. My choice of fuel.

    132mph record either way.

    HRM.

    If anything was ever magazine worthy, it's that.

    Slightly off topic, but what kind of a monster uber plane needs a nearly 2 mile long runway? A B-52 or something? It's almost like they built it for high-speed cars haha.

    Since the article mentions the departure of DHL leaving it open, I'd guess a 747 Cargo loaded with 40 bazillionty tons of useless christmas gifts.

    I'm hoping this happens. Ohio is almost exactly half as far and right next to my buddy in Columbus

    That's one of the nice things about Wilmington - it's an hour or less from Dayton, Columbus and Cincinnati.

    And yes, I just referred to distance using time as a unit of measure - I guess it's a Midwest thing?

    THAT is awesome. I always wanted to go to maxton, but couldn't justify the trip to just watch some cars race. Three and a half hours is much better.

    The runway here in North Bay was built for the military and it is 10,000 ft long. It can take pretty well anything including Antonov AN-124s.

    I think runways that long are kind of a standard for military bases.

    Come out for a weekend, use Indy as halfway point. I'll be chasing a record or two.
