We pulled the transmission off the MX-6 today with intentions of replacing the clutch (it was on the fritz). Anyhow, inside we found a Fidenza flywheel (lightweight aluminum flywheel with steel insert). However, there is some bluing and what appears to be heat marks on both sides (flywheel & pressure plate surfaces (obviously pressure plate is being replaced)), but no cracks, and a very flat, smooth, clean surface. There isn't a ton of material to turn it, but should be plenty for just a replacement clutch. So the question is, is the bluing and heat marks a deal breaker? Or can it just be lightly sanded w/ wet 400 grit and put back together and called good enough? It's a fairly light-duty daily-driver. Otherwise I'll need to get a new insert and take it to get turned. Thanks in advance.

If it isn't scored or excessively worn, you should be able to clean it up with no problem.

I wouldn't consider that a deal breaker unless it looks horrible.
