This post is for those of you whom might think safety equipment is secondary…. This flip happened on a restart, I was on the pole. As you can see in the first picture I snapped the left rear axle just after the bearing (rim still had hub and drum attached). Speed was about 65mph or so. Still hard to believe not a mark on me! Not even sore the next day. Guess good safety equipment works. Bell helmet, 3 layer G-force suit, 5 way belts, Kirkey intermediate 20 deg seat. The damage was.. 1) Left rear axle. 2) Slight bent rear housing. 3) Bent pan-hard rod (track bar) 4) Crumpled hood. 5) Left rotor ( replaced as precaution its interregnal hub type (chevette)) 6) Lower outer ball joint 7) Lower inner ball joint (1/2 rod end) 8) Oil cooler. 9) 5 way safety belt.

Car was great next time out, damage was not too bad. Had 3rd for a few laps then my body ran out of steam...I need to work out. http://finishlinephotography.smugmug.com/gallery/5636663_BJJcP#341170935_xzjw4

Wow, man, glad you're ok. Now you can cross flipping and seeing your life flash before your eyes off of your to-do list.

Nah no life flash, thats after you hit the wall....BTDT...

It was kinda fun but i don't need to do it again. Impact forces don't seem high.

I've back it in to a wall once at ~80mph that hurt i had brusies in my back in the shape of grage 8 bolt heads you could see the lines in the bolt heads in my back. Now i make sure everyone re tightens there radiator hose clamps...

One could argue that the safety equipment would not have been necessary had you spent a little more on the axle shaft

Just kidding... glad it came out well.

I think the rest of that will buff right out. Good safety equipment doesn't cost, it pays!
