I love this truck. If I was looking for a brandy new pickup (not likely to ever happen in my lifetime) I would be seriously looking at this truck. It just has way to much awesomeness!

As Winding Road said "Tread Lightly My Ass!" :)

No but seriously tread lightly...we don't need MORE trails being closed due to dummies.

I like the fact that SVT isn't dead yet. Maybe in hiding, but someone over at Ford is still trying to get special editions on the road!

While I totally see your point, bear in mind that the group of off roaders this is supposed to appeal to are the ones who like Trophy Trucks, and going down Baja- not rock climbing and trail riding. Not that I'm trying to change your mind, but just a little tid bit.

I understand... but who it's marketed too and who buys it are completely separate things. Reference the Honda Element and it's 20 something targeted audience and it's 40-50 something buying public... or the rubicon wrangler who drives them? And it dosen't matter if they go to BLM lands in the west or baja or tellico.... or wherever.. Bubba's is as Bubba's do..

ehh.. I'll stop being a cranky old man now.

    This isn't a PreRunner, it's 4WD.

The one review I've read of it (jalopnik's) said that it's absolutely badass, but the automatic kills a lot of the fun. Of course, this was with a 5.4L truck; the new 6.whatever should be more fun, and more appropriate to have it's torque converted.

Oh, and FWIW, Spotted Owl isn't gamey at all if you cook it right.

bah! I don't care what anybody says; "coupe" and "sedan" have nothing to do with the number of doors; work trucks should always be diesels; and if the front wheels are powered, it's not a prerunner.

    Now get off my lawn!

I've got this puppy for a week, this is so damn much fun, I could grow a mullet and say "boy howdy!" It's devoured some pretty steep brush-covered hills so far, hope to get it out to a gravel pit this weekend. Fingers crossed for a clean diesel in future (you know, to offset the spotted owl damage).

You're in Canada, right? You need to take on some tundra. And some Tundra.

chances are, these trucks will not find their way off road for a while.. no matter how bad assed they are. Most people do not make brand new trucks they are paying on still into rock crawlers (well, most sane people)

And those that decide to test their new raptor (people without any real rock crawling experience....) well, they will probably either get them stuck or break them

The idea is good, from a mechanical point of view. This is the type of truck i'd like to have if I lived in the southwest and could afford such a thing. (and GM made it) Sadly, it only comes in automatic and super luxury leather interior....Couldn't we save a ton of cash with a stick shift, rubber floor covers, cloth seats, basic A/C, no nav, etc? You know, a real truck, not a Linclon with a cargo box. (Oh wait, they do make those...)

I think this truck is amazing and have been following its development over the past couple years. It is truly one of a kind in that its the first truck being offered with factory parts and a factory warranty that can handle the abuse of jumps and etc. They are actually talking about the gov't ordering some for border patrol and drug enforcement. tell me that wouldn't be awesome.. .we'd finally have something that could catch the drug runners.

I don't think that you'll see a bunch of "bubbas" buying one and tearing up stuff. I imagine things will continue much as they have- true enthusiasts making careful purchases that support their lifestyle, and as such purchasing this truck and off roading it the way they have previous vehicles. There will definitely be posers who buy it and run those BFG's bald in 20,000 miles driving it to and from work, just as there are tons of lifted trucks around here that never see more than a gravel driveway off road.

Now in a few years when these things start to hit the used market, thats where the fun will start.
