I'm looking for something boring . We need something that has a 3rd row for occasional use (mostly for dog) and gets reasonable mileage. We are shopping 3-4 year old vehicles in the $12k canadian (12,384 USD ) range. We need leather (dog) and would like something reasonably fuel efficient. The two vehicles we like so far are a Taurus X and 07ish XL7. I know these aren't big favorites in the GRM community, but they seem to fit our needs.

Does anyone have any experience with either one? The suzuki uses a 3.6L caddy block with an engine that's assembled in Japan. I'm a little concerned since I don't know much about this caddy block, but I've heard quite a few horror stories about northstars etc. If I get the zuk, I could also get rid of my f250 since I really only use it to tow my 2500lbs of miata and trailer. Any advice?

I'll probably get a fwd since I put snows on it anyway and would prefer the slightly better mileage.

Dude, we have a Freestyle - it's great. No timing belt. Great on gas for its size. I wouldn't even consider it in the same category as the Suzuki. Heck, the EPA gas mileage for the Suzuki is like 22 mpg highway or something ridiculous compared to the Freestyle at 27. Ford is also fantastic with their use of OBD-II if you're planning to DIY it, and parts are likely easier to find and cheaper.

LOVE my wife's Taurus X. 3 years and 40k miles in, nothing has broken, it averages 20mpg in mixed driving and 23-24 on the freeway, it's comfortable, safe, has plenty of gadgets, and it's even kinda-sorta fun to drive. As much as a 4000lb front-drive crossover can be, anyhow. It's a great vehicle.

northstars leak like sieves and take upwards of 8 qts per oil change, but I guess theyre durable if they can last through the own crappy design for as long as some of them have been around.
I'd recommend the ford or another asian suv... you can get a relatively new hyundai or kia suv in the range probably.
