Tiger Mom wanted to go for a hike today so we went.  No point arguing with a force of nature, right?   Well up the draw (or fallen from a nearby cliff) we found an old car.   I can't tell what it is but I took pics for the hive to throw their efforts into.   What I can tell is that it is baby blue, has a straight 6 engine, 4 door, bench front seat, and the fuel filler is under the license plate.  Now pics.  The roof had been cut off and was a hundred feet away or so.

this one might be promising.  The right rear of the car....model badge?

And probably hopeless but some parts numbers from some interior trim bit.

So, does anyone have any ideas?

Damn, you guys are good.   I don't know why I thought the badge letter was an "M".    Had my mental gears in entirely the wrong place.

Yep, saw the taillights and knew it. The badge was too easy. The steering wheel looked GM or maybe Ford.

That bumper is amazing rust free!

That car is roughly 45 years old.  COMPLETELY  GONE.  Jesus malaise era cars really are total crap.

I walk past this one frequently. Clearly ran when parked.

I recognized it, as soon as I saw the taillights. My friend drove a 2dr the same color in high school. It was s six cylinder too.

I roped down a cliff on a logging road a few years ago on a search and rescue call looking for a missing person. I found him, along with six cars that had gone off or more likely been pushed off over the years. The oldest was prewar. None worth dragging back up.

Kind of reminds me of this one a little bit:

kids ran off the road and into the lake in 1970.  :-(

then, ostensibly due to climate change, the lake was at an all time low and the fire department was trying out some new sonar type equipment and stumbled on the accident scene.  44 years later.  But it gets better.  While they were working the accident scene, they found another dude who made the exact same mistake in 1969.  He was driving some early '50's car.  In case you're thinking about a low mile '69 Camaro time capsule, there's a YouTube where you can see one of the rescue team folding the hardtop back like it was made out of cake icing.  I don't know how they got the tow hook to grab.

Weren't the bodies still inside the cars? Kind of grim but good to have closure for the families.

I know where a car is that's been there very likely way before we found it in the late 1960s. Hard to get to but might be interesting climbing back in there again before I'm too old and getting some pics.

Or ran up until about 10-20 seconds before ending up parked there.

Saw these a couple days ago when I went to look at a 2nd-gen rx7.  Both of these are '61's, I believe.  He also has a matching van, although I forgot to get a pic.

I found a truck bed in the woods when I was mountain biking. Not sure what kind of truck it was as the tailgate is missing.

The original car is a Malibu I recognized the tail lights right away.

There is a beetle in a sand wash we ride down; it's been there since 1979 it moves a few feet a year.

I'll go out on a limb and say that this Nova is on the early side of that 75-79 estimate.  Like 75-76... assuming the steering wheel is original.  I think they got the offset-center wheels in 77.

75-76 got these wheels like in the car you found

See the source image

77-79 got these.
