I wouldn't go for the Ducati as a first bike, they are way uncomfortable, bars are too low pegs too high and the reach to the bars is pretty long. Makes learning to ride a PITA, but you're a masochist so it's ok, and another thread jacked!!! WOOT!!!

I find the monster rather comfortable. OTOH they have uped the desmo tune up intervle to 8k miles.

I think an old Miura would be more usable than an old Countach - better vision, probably more reliable once sorted. Jay Leno runs two of them, if that's anything to go by - http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/video/video_player.shtml?vid=187641
