She gave up parts so that others may live. Claimed by cancer (rust). 10/72 - 6/10.

You call THAT rust? Here in Michigan that's factory fresh. Heck, your bumper isn't even made of Oak.

I've seen FAR rustier cars driving around MA. Hell, my old S13 was far rustier than that car and I still drove it for a year before it died! Do you have any more photos so we can give you a definitive answer?

You could poke your finger through the rockers, which are structural on a unit-body AMC... The front subframe, torsion bar mounts, springs, radiator support, floor pan, and rear 1/4's were all rusted through as well as the front fenders, front and rear valance, and both bumpers. The hood, roof, and ironically the trunk floor were the only rust-free items.

The wheels/tires and glass were all that was left worth taking off, and t had to leave on the tires. The guy that took it is going to keep them though. It didn't even have a steering column!

OK, that sounds fatal. You can't tell from that photo, though.

Looks like the shape of those fenders could make nice bubble flares on a little car...

My mother had a 1976 AMC Spirit. Nice little 6 cyl. two door, white with a blue interior. Even 15 years old it still shined like new. It got condemned by NYS because the frame rotted away. She didn't want to sell it and have a kid die when it folded in half so she crushed it.

Rust, like cancer, lies beneath the surface and can be a bigger infestation than appears.

Having been involved with a 1974 Hornet in about 1983, I'm amazed that thing looks as good as it does. That Hornet was less than 10 years old and it had gaping holes everywhere.

Silly me, I figured this was a mis-placed tribute to Gilligan/Bob Denver.

I was walking with a friend at a car show here in crystal river and out of the corner of my eye I spied an amc station wagon and stopped and said wow look at that . Nice original maybe 70 k miles . There was alot of old fart splash there but the wagon was just so on ! He freaked and said I can't believe you like that .
