I know I just bought the Sonett and it's still not quite road-ready yet, and I have the Miata and it's not quite track-ready yet, and I have the Volvo and the head isn't quite re-attached yet, and I have the Swift and 2nd gear doesn't work yet, I have a hankering for something new.

I keep thinking about a MkIII GTI. Or a Jaguar XJ8. Or there's a manual-trans turbo E23 745 with buffalo interior. Or maybe a 2nd gen MR2. I've always wanted a Reatta or an Escort GT.

Or I could rebuild or replace the trans for the GT, buy a roll bar and new camber bolts and subframe bracing for the Miata, replace the wiring and hoses in the Sonett, paint my living room...

I vote you should finish your other cars.

finish them, then do a 510

    Same boat.

I've got the Bronco and the 5.0, the 5.0 runs/drives but still needs a lot of love, I have a whopping 3 mile commute and I keep eyeballing FCs, MR2s, E30s, and RWD Corollas. Of course, $4/gallon gas has all the A-B drivers looking at the same stuff just for the MPGs

EDIT: And I forgot to mention the 7 month old...

i say 745, especially if its the later M106 engine.

I can't seem to find acceptable 510s for my usual three-figure price range.

    That E23 is an '84, so it should be a 3.4l, M106.

Finishing the other cars... Yeah I can see merit there. But really, how long am I going to keep any of those cars in order to make that work pay off?

K, if the work won't pay off, why not sell them to free up the space? (I know, blasphemy).

    In reply to ReverendDexter:

Hmm. That is an interesting thought.

I vote against it. But it's interesting.

    Must be single. ;-)

I find that having four project cars that are completely unusable is overwhelming. Get one at least to the drivable stage, then move on to the next. Having four in shambles is a recipe for making no progress on any of them. Especially if money is at all an issue. Why spend big money on another project if you can't even make progress on the ones you have??

Oh no no, I am married, two kids... But I also have a four car garage and a biiiiig driveway.

And they aren't in shambles, only the Sonett and the headless Volvo (which I actually have everything for except enough warmth to work on it) are not drivers right now.

    There's also an '88 924S on CL. And another couple of cheap 944s. I haven't had a P-car in a while.

This is beautiful. As a man of letters, I cannot help but be reminded of Dickens and his "Tale of Two Cities":

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way...."
