This will be my first time! Does anybody know if they'll give you a hard time for shooting with a DSLR (no telephoto lens)/tripod/step ladder?

Who cares if they give you a hard time. It's a free country.
I would imagine that it won't be 100% wall to wall with people, so there is likely a few places you will be able to use your setup without interfering with anyone's viewing pleasure.
That said, I'm pretty sure there is catch fencing all the way around that course...
The airport side is pretty easy access to shoot . Going to be there tommorrow morning so will post some shots from there . I will also see if there is access to cheap/free tix . Going to work on the brand new Kinetic Kia Optimas , should be fun . The Ferrari Challenge series is also there .
I'm going, went last year it was really cool. If you have extra tix let me know I didn't get any yet.
