In my case, the wood platform was to give me a smooth rolling surface, working on a gravel driveway is torture for any under-car work. Been there, done that, this was my cheap solution to that. Actually, my wife gets 100% the credit for the platform idea, which has worked out very well.

An added bonus is that I can anchor directly to the platform. Between the weight of the car and platform, there's at least 3,500 lbs anchoring the canopy. I'm not saying it couldn't blow away, but having the canopy anchored to the platform will make it much more difficult. Luckily, the garage/platform is right next to the house, so the house blocks some of the major winds.

In my case, we live in a very rocky area and getting ground stakes in just wasn't happening.

Unfortunately, we got a ton of snow dumped on us this weekend, but I'll post up pictures once it clears...
