Before I met Corey I read the issue with his Rabbit.  I was totally hooked on the Challenge when I read that write up.  Yes that 1/3rd of a page write up is what drew me in.  Yes, the Mongral BMW was the first exposure and the Mongral Miata was IMO one of the greatest to be built.  But the ballance between totally radical (Mongral) and well prepared brand loyal hot rod (Corey's) was a lure for me.   The Great Moments is my favorite part of every issue.  Each issue bringing back a memory and a solute to efforts from the past....2 thumbs up.

After Corey and my family met we became friends, he joined us for the $2005 Fiat build, visited him at his home, watch him have a family...  I love the Challenge, the friendships, the rivalries, the staff.....  Wow.... all this love and I haven't hit up the Christmas cheer yet...Ok, back on topic....  Shout out to you Corey!!!  Come back to the Challenge!!!!

Exactly!  Well said Andrew!    I'll always remember that wickedly fast green Rabbit that Corey brought years ago.  He, his buddy, and his girlfriend mercilessly beat that little VW all weekend long---- it must have done 20 1/4 mile runs!   IIRC it was pretty fast too---- under 14 seconds in the 1/4.

I was so impressed that I sold him my beloved VW that had been out of commission for a while.  I'm still hoping to see it again at the Challenge.   Although at this point, I'm afraid it may have returned to the Earth!

His fuel rail built out of copper plumbing parts was awesome!

Wow!  I'm flattered beyond belief.

It's pretty amazing to think that I, in any way, shape, or form, inspired the king of Challenge drag racing to throw his hat into the ring.

And I want to repeat the sentiment that the Challenge and the GRM family is so much more than a magazine and a motorsport event.  It was through this very forum that Andy and I really met.  I briefly met him at his first Challenge when he brought the Nova, but when I was moving to Pennsylvania I posted about the move,  Andy PM'd me and asked if I was interested in checking out his next Challenge car.  He welcomed me to his home like I was family, and within no time at all I was spending a few days a week in a 100 year old stone and wood barn under a '62 Fiat, and loving every minute of it.  I wouldn't trade those experiences for the world.

And Joe, the Scirocco is safe and sound.  I've gained and lost a few garage spaces throughout the years, but it's always been parked on concrete, so at least it hasn't been being eaten up from the ground up.  I have all the parts to do what I want to do with it, now I just need the space and the time.  It will return, but I can't tell you when.

So yeah, huge thanks to the GRM family for bringing all of us automotive degenerates together.  I've made some lifelong friendships through the Challenge.  Don't worry, I'll be back.  My two year old daughter is slowing me down, but it won't be long before she'll be building her very own challenge car.

And a huge shout out to Andy.  For continually raising the challenge bar, allowing me to help build one of his amazing machines, and for accepting me as part of his family.  It's all very humbling.  Whether I make it back to the Challenge soon or not, I really need to make an excuse to come visit you either way!  Miss you buddy!

This *may* have been the year the Canexican and I were worried we’d accidentally killed you with whiskey in the hot tub the night before the drags, and broke into your car so you’d have a drag time.

Hahahahahaha, I'd nearly forgotten about that!  I'm pretty sure I exceeded my drag MPH on the way to the track that morning trying to make it there on time, driving the tow vehicle.  Hotel to the track in under 15 minutes.

Evan is a helluva drug.

And you did not arrive at the track in the “morning.”

I don't think I've ever seen someone as close to death, as Corey was that "morning".  :)

Glad you survived pal!

I don’t remember which year it was, but tattoedwelder and co handed us a handle of Crown before heading back to the great white north. When we ran out of mix, we were just passing the jug around the hot-tub. I think we finally hit the room when we started speaking in tongues.

The Canexican and I were genuinely concerned we’d killed you and Colleen after calling a dozen-plus times on drag-day.crying
