BTW, I already have a hitch mount rack...so I'll just get a bitch for the 240.

Is she going to hold the bike rack while you drive?

Escort wagons/hatches are dirt cheap enough. Plus there are suspension options to make them handle better. Why not just find another Zx2 since you know about them?

I don't really want two cars. I'm thinking the insurance, inspections, registration, and maintaining two vehicles will be more expensive then the difference in gas.

I was interested in the Volvo because it'd be a nice daily drivers. Leather seats, big cabin, lots of space to store..err haul stuff.

If I could find an Escort Wagon cheap, that'd be great. I found a Fox Wagon for $500.

I wouldn't trade the 240SX for either of those however. I'm tired of driving econo-cars. I'm a car guy, I love talking, working, driving, fixing, cars. For me to continue driving FWD cars is painful.

You CAN get 30mpg and rear wheel drive.. you just need to find the right car.

I have seen (an indicated) 37mpg highway in my BMW 318ti. This car, in case you do not know, is the (hated) hatchback of the BMW family. It is basically an older E30 (84 to 91) Bmw in an E36 (91 to 99) suit.

Like the volvo and the 240.. it's drivetrain is pretty decently bolted together.. it is everything else that falls apart.

I vote you stay with the 240.

The 1990 240SX XE is rated at 18 mpg City and 24 mpg Highway.

Depending on what's wrong with the tune with your car, it's hard to say what exactly you should do to improve your gas mileage.
