I was just looking at this article from the front page,

    http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/side-winder/

and it clearly shows the road course at gainesville raceway being used as part of the challenge. When did you guys stop using the road course for the challenge, and why don't you do it anymore?

Pretty sure $2003 was the last year. I was at the $2003 and we used it, and was at the $2005 and it didn't. I don't know about $2004.

My $2003 CRX on the road course -

Yep, it was there in $2004. I believe they went to parking lot racing because it was more in tune with what Challengers are used to. I wish you had more than 30 seconds to flaunt your skills though.

The main reason we did it was so we didn't have to pick the whole event up and move it just a few hundred yards. There has been a lot of talk about moving back to the road course. This year I believe it was rented to someone else, while we were on the autocross course.

Yea, 2004 was the last time it was used.

Some crazy eyetalan car took FTD... You can find a picture of that car on the road course in GRM's top 25 favorite challenge cars...

(my high point in Challege competition- one day after the low point)

Fun course- and very fast- at least for me. 8000 rpm in second on the back sweeper. And I really enjoyed driving a mid-engine V8Vair.

What year was the $1,500 Challenge?
The other years are easy to figure out.

Only because some A-holes who called themselves "Hong Norr" wobbled the first slalom cone out of the box.

Yep, 2004 was the last year - I drove the Saturn on the road course, and LOVED it! Might be cool if it could be used for non-competitive runs, if you wish to keep the autocross true to form...
