Datsun 240Z vs. Mazda RX-7. We compared the two directly, on a track and everything.

But that doesn't mean it's closed to bench racing: Which corner are you in, blue or yellow?

I really like my Mazdas. I almost bought an 86 RX-7 once. But this one has to go to the 240Z in my book.

RX7 because it is so much cheaper.

I kinda suspect the rx7 performed better, but I'd rather have the Z

Without having read the article I'd give the nod to the Z - independent suspension and torques please. Plus, I like the looks and interior better.

This. I've owned an FB RX-7 and a Datsun 280Z and I would love to get my hands on a 240Z or another SA/FB RX-7.

I'd take the Z, but I'm not biased or anything.

Methinks as well that the Z would've won by the numbers given some better suspension tuning.

No question. RX7.

Maybe the Z if it had a rotary...

And I'm exactly the opposite. I'll take the Z, or an engine-swapped RX-7.

Yeah, I'd take the 240. Better sound (in my opinion), and the torques seal the deal. And I'm not loving that NB body anymore.

Z Z Z Z Z ! Unless it was a V8 swap in the 7, then it would be a tougher choice.

I've had both and I am not sure. They both kick ass.

Tie. Both need LSx.

I vote RX-7 but might be biased. My car was quicker than the Z anyhow.

It should also be noted that this was run before getting the megasquirt tuned which picked me up about about 20hp at the wheels. It would have then destroyed the Z around the same track.

I spent a good deal of time in the Z. The tq was nice but the steering always felt very heavy and the rear end made a ton of noise. On the other hand My RX-7 with the light flywheel setup, deleted 5th & 6th ports and "wonder" steer was no peach around town either.

Oddly enough the RX-7 is getting an LS1/T56 built to LS6 specs.

I got no dog in this fight. Of course, that means I'm kicking myself for never having had either when they were still plentiful, and good runners were cheap. I've driven both, and I love them. I still think the 7 has better brakes, tho.

I would take either one.
