"We were blown away by what a difference the manual gearbox made. Suddenly it was as if we were driving a four-door Miata."

Seriously? Your not kidding? This car is that good?

Yep. More in the Feb issue. It's a fun little car.

So... the auto is front wheel drive and the manual is rear wheel drive? That's quite an impressive feat.

I sat in a lime green one with white wheels and 5-speed at the Japanese Classic Car Show this past September and was impressed with the room for a guy of my height.

See it in the top part - the car itself was not photo worthy.

So, how does the 2 compare to the Fiesta?

I know the chassis is shared, is the suspension also?

Showed up in today's mail! Would someone 5' 11", 230ish fit in it OK. A friend's been in the market for a new car, and has put the Mazda 2 on his to see list. But, must be a manual. Now with that quick review I just read, off to the CT auto show this weekend.

I'm built like a linebacker and fit in a Fiesta fine.

Some actual performance numbers from a recent comparo:

    http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparisons/10q3/2011_ford_fiesta_vs._2010_hon...

Click on the pdf for the specs and performance numbers.

I drove one for a couple days last month. It wasn't particularly more exciting than a Fit, or Fiesta, or Accent or......any of the other small econoboxes currently offered. Considering it has the same basic specs as a 20-25yo Civic DX, that isn't too surprising.

Perhaps someday, one of these manufacturers will put a motor with some oomph under the hood, ala Mini S. Hell, Nissan has a great little motor in the Juke that could be powering a Nismo Versa.
