Yeah, I'm pretty irritated right now. Thinking of staging my own "Tea Party" in my front yard.
Okay, backstory: I'm a VW geek. Currently own two, my Jetta DD and a '91 VW GTI project car. The GTI was going to recieve an ABF swap, but I've been taking my time buying parts, doing research etc... Car has been more or less parked for about a year and a half, with the occasional jaunt around the block.
Got home from work today to find a message and business card from the local Police. Turns out in my city, you are not allowed to have a project car. I have 5 days to get rid of it or they will be forced to send me a nasty letter telling me of my non-compliance with city ordinance, and 21 days from there to get rid of it or I'll be summoned in front of the big bad judge. Keep in mind, this car is on private property, not in the street or anything.
So I call the nice Police lady, who I might add had a bit of a 'chip' on her shoulder..... She explains the ordinance, I express my displeasure at the city's arrogance in thinking they can do this to my beloved GTI. I mean seriously, who do they think they are?
Long story short: I can sell it, junk it, store it, or she tells me I have two other choices: Get it running, insured, registered, "road worthy" (crack in the windshield, so that needs replaced) and be good to go. Not an option right now ($$$). OR I can register it, declare it a "junk" car, which the city says I then have to have FULL insurance coverage on, not just storage or liability, FULL coverage on a car that doesn't run (
), and then cover it with a big blue tarp. Okay so let me get this straight: You would rather look at a big blue tarp covered car, than just a car? Rrrriiiiiight, let me get back to you on that.
And the best part: one of my bored old neighbors ratted me out..... Time to break out my Commemorative Gitmo Edition Waterboard.
So: be on the look out for a ran-when-parked '91 mk2 VW GTI big bumper, euro quad round grille, non-sunroof, 1.8L 8v GTI with a spare, disassembled ABA block, ABA 8v head, and additional 1.8l 16v cylinder head in the classifieds soon..... at a very "Challenge" package price in N. Central Ohio.
The proceeds from the sale will be used to buy as many tea bags as I can find to dump on the steps at city hall. berkeleyers...... OR I might go buy the most obnoxious fugly, road worthy vehicle I can find and park it in its place. Like a mettallic mint-green with gold flake 70's Ford Grenada rollin' on 24" spinners.
Okay, thanks for letting me vent.
