Always thought the X-Runner was a weird also-ran against it's performance truck contemporaries. Weak engine and rear drum brakes? Nice try, Toyota.
I dont think it exactly competed against the srt-10 ram. The 2g lightning ended before x runner started. It was really in a class of its own.
Of the 3, id definitely take the toyota.
apparently between my maths and a list i found online, my stock 91 4.3 sonoma has a better power to weight ratio than the newer vw gti. now to get it to outhandle one.....
I am kinda lost to purpose of a sports truck but if had to chose one I would pick the SRT-10 Ram just because it sounds awesome.

How is that even possible? It's got to be down 50hp stock for stock on a Z, and while Zs are pigs, it has to be a good bit heavier.

Mainly the handling department. Lane change, slalom, blah blah blah. It "only" weighs about 3500lbs.
As for the second... the Xrunner really didn't have any direct competition. The Colorado is/was probably the closest thing.
yeh, and they put a 300hp 5.3 in a $30k colorado and it still didnt manage to be all that much faster than an x-runner. 
The TRD Supercharger on the XRunner did some interesting things.... 
With the charger, it could hang with the 350z in a straight line, too.

No doubt! That's what I meant, just thought the statement that trucks were "boned" was odd. If your chosen vehicle is too heavy, maybe you chose the wrong one.

i like mine. i picked up a blazer rear sway bar for it at the pull a part that i have yet to install. the best thing is i haul scrap and firewood with it, and have been using it to work until i get around to putting new tires on my big truck. i can put 1000# in the bed and it rides level. or i can empty it all out and play around, it goes around corners nicely and is untouched so far.
the allure of a small sporty truck for me that can go race is that it is practical. i can use it as a truck or as a toy without the commitment to a small useless car.
I see a lot for challenge money...has me thinking...

The purpose of a sport truck is to be a modern muscle car (im the traditional sense). One can personalize it, get a V8 (or V10) and not have to be bothered with silly things like crisp handling and impressive stoppinmg power. Mind you, I own two Shelby Dakotas. They are Harley-Davidsons of the auto world.

But for 99.99% of the truck buyers out there, it doesn't kill it as a truck.

Bout the only thing that would kill it as a truck is putting a tonneau on it or something.
Its not like it has less payload capacity or tows less. Its a 2wd tacoma with STIFFER springs, which probably makes it carry and tow BETTER.
