    About to change the head gasket on a d16y7 motor. I'm picking up a head gasket, water pump and timing belt after work. Anything else I need? Is a new timing belt tensioner necessary? Thanks all!

    cant remember if its required but new head bolts use copper seal on the head. and make sure you get the head checked for trueness before putting it back on

    I would replace the tensioner. Usually you get it all in one kit.

    Thanks katyb and spitfirebill. Convention seems to say the headbolts can be reused, and I am definitely getting the head checked for trueness. The tensioner can be purchased seperately for $60. Seemed a bit pricey, but will go with it.

    Serious answer - Yeah, might as well do the tensioner. And if they are normal looking bolts, they can be reused. If they have a spiral in the shank, they are the one time use bolts. In which case, put ARP studs in it. They are the same price as OE bolts, use a greater clamping torque, and can be reused.
