    So the time has come for us to part ways with our '09 Challenge car, the "Howdy Civic." We've tried selling it before without much luck. I listed it on CL, RacingJunk, and H-T without any hits, largely because it has no title.

    I know it would make a great track toy for someone. It's just a matter of finding that certain someone.

    I'll definitely list it in the Classifieds here.

    We don't have a title because we bought it cheap without one (was lost AND out of state), and it wasn't worth the hassle to try and register it, as it would have been owned by the state and thus subject to a mountain of paperwork unfit for a trailered race car. (Short version- wasn't worth our time. Even shorter version- we're lazy.)

    It's a '93 hatch with GSR brakes and T1R dampers and rear LCAs for an ITR. It doesn't have an engine since we've blown up two in there (too much boost and too much NAWZZZZ). It has a gutted interior and two aluminum race seats, harnesses, and harness bar. Here's a full build log: http://saeintl.tamu.edu/civic

    I feel like it would have been worth about $4-5K when running with the turbo setup if it had a title, so I think without an engine and title it's worth about $2K. But really, we're a broke student organization so we're open to all offers.

    Slap in another motor, (D16, right?) swap the turbo setup, profit. No offense, but $2k sounds a little high for a honda with no motor. The problem with race cars is the best you can really hope for is 25 cents on the dollar for what you put in, should you ever decide to sell it. I think your profit margin would be a lot better if she was a runner.

    Also: Consider eBay.

    We had to sell most of the turbo setup during the summer to cover operating costs, so swapping that back in isn't an option. I'm worried we won't recover our costs of swapping yet another engine back in, just because it doesn't have a title.

    I think you're right, I lowered the asking price down to $1500. Hopefully I'll at least get some bites, I'm getting tired of having this car around. I'd take pretty low for this car right now. We're moving into a new shop, and it's rapidly wearing out its welcome.

    That car looks worth more than 500 to me.
    Hell I'm proof cars without titles are worth more than 500. I paid 1800 for one off this very board. It did have an engine....that had a major knock....

    I'm... curious why I've never thought of this before for this car. I'd looked into it for the RX-7, but there were easier paths for that one since it was a classic. That might be crazy enough to work.

    The tax office in Bryan will help you out. At worst, you schedule a "title hearing." There, you show them the bill of sale, a picture of the vehicle, explain how you got it, etc., they go "OK" and give you a title. I once had 6 bikes and I think 4 of them came with no title. The title people were like "Oh, Hi. What would you like a title for today?"

    Anyway, start out by taking your paperwork down there and talking to the people at the title place (tax office).

    I was going to offer like $400, coming from a broke college kid. I have an '89 hatch and if the parts match up I'd be VERY interested. where are you located?

    I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try. I'll try to drum up whatever paperwork I can.

    At the risk of offending you, I could get two to three times that from a part-out. The coilovers on this car cost us $400, and that was after some heavy begging and pleading.

    with no engine and no title ... parting it out makes the most sense ... takes more time and effort and you might get stuck with some parts... but you'll get more return on investment...

    Old car that no one will come looking for (Bill of sale) and someone who just need it gone.

    I believe it, but the car always sells for less than what was put into it. I paid $3800 fully prepped ITA Civic with a complete spare body, control arms, 3 sets of wheels, and 2 complete knuckles. The engine alone was $2500. That's just what happens when you step into buying/selling track/race cars.
