Post from another forum I'm on.

Sounds like this guys school really needs the help so get your votes in!

    Hi Everyone!

A friend of mine, Rod Hill, is an auto shop teacher at Los Banos High school out in Northern California.

Rod does an awesome job teaching auto shop... teaching kids how to restore cars, build hot rods and rebuild engines.

Only problem is... his shop is lacking a lot of the basic tools needed to get the job done.

UTI is sponsoring a High School Auto Shop "Makeover"... and awarding $25,000 to the high school that gets the most votes.

You can click on this link and VOTE for Los Banos High School:

    http://utigarage.com/class-scholarship

But don't take my word for it that Rod's shop needs the $25,000...

    Watch the videos.

I know Rod hams it up a bit... slave driving the kids... but all joking aside, look at his shop, and then look at the others... I mean sheesh, the high school with the most votes looks like they can afford THREE instructors! And they look like they have a lot of equipment and tools already. Rod's classroom is a small shop that is ill-equipped and he has been able to make work for the community, and for people in need.

Again... Vote now... Los Banos High... http://utigarage.com/class-scholarship

All you have to do is click on Los Banos High, enetr your e-mail and then click on a link that they will send you that just makes sure you are a real person. It's safe.

They are 1500 votes behind... and with your help, they can WIN!

    And who wins?

    The kids...

    I thank you,

    Sam

Another vote here... I'll express again how much I wish my high school had any shop programs available.

My school's foreign language programs were rather lacking as well, so my spanish is horrid, but doesn't Los Banos roughly translate to "the bathrooms?"

I took spanish in Highschool but I goofed off most of the time.

I -think- that's what it means but I'm Canadian and not exposed to spanish speaking people very much.

It's missing a tilde over the N, but that's exactly what it means...

Edit: Although I should add that even though Banos means Bathrooms, Banos really translates to "Baths"

Banos ~ BaƱos most of the time.

But Los Banos means 'the baths' which would have more to do with bodies of water than with toilets.

Like, a place called The Springs might be closer to Los Banos than a place called The Bathrooms.

    Bump for the evening crowd.

Make sure us "dumb" kids have a way to keep our GPA up.

Yup, done! Glad to support this.

I wish my school had a garage, I think that's the reason why so many kids and just people in general now are utterly clueless about cars...or what a valve stem cap even is and what the steering wheel does.......urrgh facepalm

I guess i'm another that wishes he had auto shop as an option... freshman year I was a teachers pet for the shop teacher (in wood shop but he taught metal and auto also)... had I not moved i'd have been the only sophomore in auto shop... but I moved where the only way to get into a "shop" class was to head out to the vo-tech school... ya know where they send all the pot heads and other "loosers" who have no chance of doing anything else with their life.
