So we took apart the engine that spectacularly let go right before the '10 Challenge. Here are some teaser photos:

No question about this one, I don't think it's salvageable. I'm thinking of making the internals into a robot.

Is there an award for the most catastrophic failure on the way to the Challenge?

I kinda hoped we could win by proxy.

How the hell do you throw 3 rods? Seriously - did they all let go at the same time or did it run for some length of time with one bad one, then two, then three?

Except for the drain ports, it's very pretty.

Four. All four shattered in a fraction of a second. It was a 75 shot of nitrous. The only thing that makes sense is the engine was severely abused by it's previous owner, which is very possible.

Outside of some NHRA engines that I've seen, that has to be the most catastrophic failure I've seen.

Impressive damage gentlemen. How many pieces has that block turned itself into?

I don't know, several dozen. Most of the voids you see in the pictures turned into pieces about the size of a dime.

And yes, we are hard on engines. We blew up an engine before this one with too much boost.

Haven't you guys watched "The Fast and the Furious" before? Didn't you get this message on your laptop before the floorboard popped out and your engine asploded?

Seriously, that's a horror show. I was LMAO while looking at those photos.

    And the engine Gods wept...

What a way to go though.

What kind of engine WAS that?

Properly borked. Well done. No point in half-assing these things.

It used to be a D15.

Was it the NOS or the build? Inquiring minds want to know.

The engine wasn't built, it was definitely the nawzzzz.

I bought the engine from an asian kid named Johnny in Houston for $150 who had it in his boosted Del Sol that he (probably) street raced and beat the piss out of, if my guess is correct.

Probably the most depressing noise I've ever heard in my life.

Should have gone for the 100 shot for all 4.

I got a tube of JB weld- we can fix that.

As an aside, I think I'm more impressed by the piston than the hole(s) in the block. You know how to kill one proper!
